This one’s for Bobby Thrasher—a friend, a fighter, and a fixture at the Dew Drop dartboards. His laughter lingered long after the last throw, and his presence still echoes in every corner of the room. “When, Where and How?” isn't just a song; it's a question that never fades, carried on the wings of memory and music. Here's to the stories we still tell, and the silence we wish he could fill.
"Mama's Hands"
The story behind the song:
Growing up with a single parent who was both mother and father, as well as my closest friend, shaped my life profoundly. Saying goodbye to her was something I couldn’t fathom. In 1985, I found myself reflecting on what the loss of my only parent would feel like, and from those thoughts, I wrote this song. I poured my emotions into it, knowing I wouldn't have the strength to perform at her funeral when the time came. I recorded it well in advance, understanding that the pain would make it impossible afterward. When she passed in 2011, my family asked if I could perform the song, but I wasn’t able to do so in person. Instead, it became a keepsake capsule for the family, preserving her memory and love in a deeply personal and lasting way.
"Home is where the hurt is"
The story behind the song:
Growing up with a single parent who was both mother and father, as well as my closest friend, shaped my life profoundly. Saying goodbye to her was something I couldn’t fathom. Knowing I wouldn't have the strength to perform at her funeral, I wrote this song before her passing, pouring all my emotions into it. I even recorded it well in advance, understanding the pain would make it impossible afterward. When that heartbreaking day came, the song became a bridge between my love for her and the celebration of her life.
"Heaven must be wonderful tonight"
The story behind the song:
The song was inspired not only by the passing of a dear friend but also by a profound experience I had—a walk with a departed relative who revealed to me the treasures of heaven. That moment was a powerful confirmation that heaven is real, filled with unimaginable beauty and fragrances beyond earthly comprehension. Moved deeply by this spiritual encounter, I felt guided by the spirit to write this song as a reflection of that divine experience.
